What makes sustainable sunglasses?

OTIS is committed to creating more sustainable sunglasses than regular plastic alternatives. Our range is a testament to our dedication to environmental responsibility and our commitment to providing the best sustainable sunglasses in Australia.

Since OTIS was founded in 2000, we've always used mineral glass lenses that are scratch resistant, optically correct and endlessly recyclable. As part of our sustainability mission, we also had a vision to offer EcoAceate frame options that biodegrade at their end of life in landfill. There’s also our EcoGrilamid materials, which are made from 50% renewable resources, using castor oil instead of petrochemicals for a long-lasting, lightweight material.

B CORP Certified

It can be hard to tell the difference between regular options from more ethical sunglasses. One badge that makes a difference, is being Corp certified. As a B Corp OTIS is part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact. We proudly accept the responsibility this gold-standard expects from companies to genuinely use their business as a force for good.

Being a certified B Corp since 2022 reflects the core of our journey towards responsibility, it signifies our commitment to acknowledging issues and actively working to address them. We understand that every pair of frames we produce, sell, and ship has an environmental impact. Our aim is to be transparent about our current standing, highlighting achievements but also identifying opportunities for improvement. We believe in creating products that not only serve our customers but also contribute positively to society and the environment. Sustainability isn't just a buzzword for us; it's an integral part of who we are. Read more in our responsibility report:

Materials for more sustainable sunglasses

Eco Acetate

Our Eco-Acetate frames are made from renewable resources present in nature. Derived from cotton seeds & plant matter, Eco-Acetate is recyclable, biodegradable and eco-friendly. It helps close a circular economy, feeding the earth at the end of life for more natural materials to be grown.

Eco Grilamid

Our Eco-Grilamid frames are made from a bio-based material that’s better for the environment than regular plastics. Its main ingredient, castor oil, comes from plants grown in semi-arid areas that don’t compete for land used in food production.

Mineral Glass

OTIS uses mineral glass lenses across the range. Mineral glass is created from natural elements like sand and soda ash. It’s recyclable and harmless to humans and animals alike. Its optical clarity, high resistance to scratch and lack of distortion making it a particularly durable lens material.

More Sustainable Sunglasses Need Better Packaging
