Through the Lens: With Kobi Clements
Kobi Clements has grown up in the ocean... shaped by it from day one. Raised on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and chasing waves around the world from a young age, his connection runs deeper than just surfing. It’s instinctive. Effortless. The kind of perspective that comes from a lifetime in and around the water, and one that continues to evolve every time he paddles out.

First, most important question, do you reckon you'd smoke your dad in a heat these days? Haha absolutely but it would be a funny heat to watch, Dad’s ruthless!
Seriously, though, you've been raised around the ocean with your family. What about that lifestyle is the most important to you? The way I’ve been brought up the family and the ocean are most important they’ve given me everything I feel so attached to it
"I feel like difference is that a surfer sees the ocean one way when a waterman sees it from all different ways. I’d like to think that I’m a waterman."
How important are having good-quality sunglasses in the life you lead? Lately I’ve been wearing the Soul frames everywhere I go, my eyes get super sensitive when it’s super bright so they help me a tonne between long glaring surfs.
Your mum's French and you're bilingual. How has that opened up your eyes to travel and other cultures? Being fluent in another language helps you communicate around the world and makes life a lot easier!
What's the best thing about travelling and hunting for surf? Any places you want to go but haven't been yet? Best thing about travelling is to experience different cultures. Hunting for surf is always an adventure and scoring too! Paddling out to a surf knowing you’re going to score must be one of the best feelings. Two places I would love to go this year would be Fiji and Mexico. The culture looks so cool and the waves look unreal to stack clips.
We talk about 'Framing Your Freedom' a bit at OTIS. When do you feel most free? I feel most free when i take off on a wave knowing I can try whatever I want on this wave.
Finally, what's plans for 2026? Any big goals or trips? What's next for you? The plan is to qualify for the challenger series in between hunting wild waves to get crazy clips haha super grateful on how I live.
What are your favourite OTIS frames? I’m currently wearing the soul frame I love that old school look I see those old Otis posters of people wearing old school frames and I love that look of rock and roll ! I love the Kingswood frame too.
