“Surfing in Norway was surreal—cold water, breathtaking landscapes, and empty lineups. The scenery was unlike anything I’ve ever surfed in, with snow-capped mountains and rocky coastlines framing the breaks. It was similar to Iceland but, in many ways, even more dramatic,” Hunter explained.

The journey was as much about exploration as it was about surfing. Based beachfront at Unstad, home to one of Norway’s best waves, Hunter spent 12 days chasing the season-opening swell. The unpredictable forecasts and long travel hours were rewarded with pumping surf and magical Arctic light that made every session unforgettable.

One hike to a remote surf spot turned into a full-on mission when nightfall hit, but moments like these only added to the trip’s adventure. “It highlighted the intersection of grit, adventure, and nature’s sheer beauty,” Hunter said.

 

Between surf sessions, the Northern Lights stole the show. “Seeing the vivid display light up the sky was unlike anything I’d experienced before. Capturing it felt like a glimpse into heaven,” Hunter shared, crediting photographer Connor Trimble for immortalizing the moment.
